I’m gonna be honest, I found my love for stroganoff on a backcountry hunt. The Peak Refuel dehydrated meal sparked my interest and I’ve been craving it ever since.
This is so simple, a quick clean up, and delicious! And to sweeten the deal, you can make it easier by throwing it all in the crockpot!
Here is our family favorite, Moose Stroganoff recipe.
Ingredients:
1 lbs red game meat of choice
2 Tbsp cooking oil
1 whole chopped onion
8 ounces of sliced mushrooms
16 ounces bone broth
1-2 Tbsp steak sauce
1 packet onion soup mix
8-10 ounces of egg noodles
2 cans of cream of mushrooms soup
8 ounces of sour cream
Salt and pepper to taste
Serve over rice or mashed potatoes
Instructions:
1. Heat a crock pot with oil on medium to low heat. I used homemade oil cubes from rendering down deer fat.
2. Once the oil is ready, add in chunked up wild game and top with chopped onions and mushrooms. Cover with 2 cups of broth, 1-2 Tablespoons of A1 Steak Sauce, and a packet of onion soup mix.
3. Cook on low for 6-8 hours then add in noodles, 2 cans of cream of mushroom, and 8 oz of sour cream. Put the lid back on and cook until the noodles are tender, about 20 minutes.
4. This can be served alone or over the top of rice or mashed potatoes. And, if you like it spicy, a little Franks Hot Sauce will give you a boost!
Don’t forget this recipe on the next rainy day! It's food for your soul!
Enjoy 🍴
